[1]	Auditor: Operating Thetan ^® Preclear: The Atom

The OT symbol ^® represents Scientology's ultimate state--Operating Thetan, a being who is at cause over matter, energy, space and time. Until recent times, the symbol has been the "T" inside an oval, as shown in the image to the right. However, around 2000, Scientology ^® modified its symbolism to represent certain aspects of Hubbard's doctrine.

In the symbol above, the idea is obviously to combine the concept of the atom with the concept of "Operating Thetan." While the combination may appear at first to seem oxymoronic, there is a definite reason for this symbolism.

Scientology promotion displays the OT/atom symbol as part of a training concept. This promotion piece advertises Scientology's Briefing Course--the materials in the center of the image are taped lectures that go with that course.

Lucretius said that each atom was life. This may or may not be true. But the first incident one finds in the GE [genetic entity] behaves as though the preclear were an atom, complete with electronic rings. This incident audits very poorly until it is located as a companion to some overt act.

There seems to be a "hole in space" immediately ahead of the Atom. Just after this hole is a condition of motion, with the preclear in the center, with rings of motion traveling around him.

Characteristic of this incident is a state of mind wanting no ARC [see Glossary] ; neither to receive ARC nor to give ARC, wanting no no <sic> ARC give-or-take. This is a comfortable aloneness. The preclear usually perceives from this his later necessities for ARC on a MEST level. [3]

The above reference for the atom points to Hubbard's view on human love and understanding--he places its genus at a very strange incident that results in the person needing human love and understanding. Running out this ancient "incident" supposedly alleviates this negative human condition. And to clarify this point, Hubbard ^® considered that Scientology raises a person from being a human to his rightful place as a god. Human ARC is inferior to that which a thetan generates--human ARC results in the person eventually becoming matter.

Hubbard taught in the basic auditing series that when a person considers himself to be MEST, he requires another person to audit him. This becomes unnecessary at the advanced levels of the Bridge, where one learns to program himself as a solo auditor.

Scientology auditor training such as the Briefing Course trains the auditor to perfectly simulate emotional responses necessary to program others.

If you look over communication, you will find that the magic <sic> of communication is about the only thing that makes auditing work.

The thetan in this universe has begun to consider himself MEST and has begun to consider himself mass, and the being that considers himself mass of course responds to the laws of electronics and the laws of Newton. He is actually incapable of generating very much or as-ising very much.

An individual considers himself mesty or massy and therefore he has to have a second terminal. A second terminal is required to discharge the energy.[4]
