|Article: Tom Cruise on Study Tech|
|The Education Angle|
Tom Cruise spoke at the grand opening of the Spanish Lake facility of Applied Scholastics International in 2004, telling how Scientology study tech cured him of his functional illiteracy.
CELEBRITY DEDICATED TO HELPING OTHERS
With anticipation building, Tom Cruise was introduced as the final speaker, passionately relating how he tried to live with functional illiteracy, getting by in life only with great difficulty, and how he tried innumerable speed-reading methods and learning tricks. Nothing worked — until he found Study Technology.
"There are solutions outside of frustration, anger, or 'just take a pill,'" said Mr. Cruise. "Education is the key. And you wouldn't be here if you didn't know this. Our kids need help; this world needs help; the kind of help where people can help themselves.1
"I will continute to dedicate my life to accomplishing this. And I am supremely grateful to Mr. L. Ron Hubbard for the Study Technology he provided — because I would not be here today without it. I am honored to be part of the Applied Scholastics movement. Because I know now that I can truly help. And so can you."
Receiving several standing ovations, Mr. Cruise set the stage for the grand finale of the ceremony.
"I believe it is the vital and strong foundation on which literacy can be built throughout the world."2
