Tom Cruise spoke at the grand opening of the Spanish Lake facility of Applied Scholastics International in 2004, telling how Scientology study tech cured him of his functional illiteracy.
![]() CELEBRITY DEDICATED TO HELPING OTHERS With anticipation building, Tom Cruise was introduced as the final speaker, passionately relating how he tried to live with functional illiteracy, getting by in life only with great difficulty, and how he tried innumerable speed-reading methods and learning tricks. Nothing worked — until he found Study Technology. "There are solutions outside of frustration, anger, or 'just take a pill,'" said Mr. Cruise. "Education is the key. And you wouldn't be here if you didn't know this.
