Hubbard "diagnosed" people who did not have his "visio" and "sonic" recalls as being schizophrenic or "the paranoid of psychiatry." Hubbard also clearly claimed that Dianetics cures schizophrenia.
Recall
is the most directly important to therapy, for it is not a symptom, it
is an actual tool of work. There are many ways to use recall. The Clear
has vivid and accurate recall for every one of the senses. Few aberrees
have. The auditor is not interested in other senses than sight and
sound because the others will be cared for in the usual course of
therapy. But if he has a patient who has no sonic, watch out. And if he
has a patient with neither sonic nor visio, beware! This is the
multi-valent personality, the schizophrenic, the paranoid of psychiatry
with symptoms not acute enough to be so classified in normal life. This
does not mean — emphatically does not mean — that people without
sight and sound recall are insane, but it does mean an above-average
case and it means a case which will take some time. It does not mean
the case is “incurable” for nothing can be further from the truth: but
such cases sometimes take five hundred hours. It simply means that such
a case isn’t any stroll through the park: there is drammer1 back
there in that reactive mind, drammer which says, “Don’t see! Don’t
hear!” Some of the engrams in this case demand reduced or no recall.
The organs of sight and sound may be highly extended in their
reception. This does not mean that anything need be wrong with the
way this person perceives sound or light waves and records them.
But it does mean that after he has recorded them, he cannot easily get
them back out of the standard bank because the reactive engram bank has
set up circuits (occlusion demon circuits) to keep him from finding out
about his past. There are, of course, greater or lesser degrees of
recall.

Hubbard discusses the attitude auditors should have toward medical doctors about epileptic customers and their drugs.
And then people who have epilepsy, which is a type of disease which gives them seizures, are almost always found on some minor drug that prevents them from getting these—they call them petit mal seizures. That's epilepsy. I don't care how they call it.
Sometimes they really seize and sometimes it's just slight. One of those, if an epileptic ever took you by the hand and so forth, he's liable to break every bone in your hand, if he suddenly had a seizure. But the doctors keep them on something to prevent this. It's just a tranquilizer and they keep them on that one year, year in and year out.
And then you come along as an auditor and you try to audit the pc and you tell the pc that he'll have to go off that drug. And then all of a sudden, why something will happen from someplace or another that the pc will tell the doctor that they have been taken off the drug by the auditor.
And the doctor will call up plaintively asking you to please put her back on the drug because she needs this. And you get into a collision between medical treatment and so on. Now I've been using a lot of medical words here or chemical words really. Just don't pay any attention to them because they're mostly gobbledygook, and there's an awful lot of gobbledygook words. Gobbledygook just means nonsense chatter, you see. There's an awful lot of them.

In this Philadelphia Doctorate Course lecture, Hubbard discussed the power of thetans and gave the origin of "epileptic form" seizures.
Trouble with the bodies here on earth, they’re quite pretty. Bodies were prettier once, than they are now, by the way. And uh.. the.. this was fine. But that body was capable of sensation.
Very often the thetan had.. the furthest thing from his mind was.. was anything like picking up
a secondary second-rate second-hand sensation someplace or other. So uh.. he.. he.. he
wouldn’t be thinking about this, maybe he was uh.. very happy.. uh.. I heard one last night
that is quite.. quite usual on the better run of thetans.. they were guardians of a wood, or
something. Yeah - they’re.. they’re guardian of wood, and they took care of this area and they
were just fine, and they safeguarded animals in this area.
Shows you that the GE is pretty special, pretty high-powered when.. uh.. thetans uh.. thetans
don’t pay too much attention to animal sensations, not until they’ve had something to do with a
GE uh.. monitored by it. All right.
The thetan perhaps got in trouble with this character, maybe this thetan.. maybe this thetan was
a sort of a guardian of the wood, and he was minding his own business, and.. and watching
the animals around and so on, and everything’s fine. And one day maybe.. maybe one of these
Homo something or others, pre-Homo Hapienses uh.. dug a pit and caught one of the deer.
Mmm-Yerr! The sense of justice of a thetan would be such as to punish. How would he punish
this fellow? Well, he’d probably punish this fellow by throwing a good heavy electronic beam at him, ka-bap! And by the way, your preclears very often will experience a very minor
electronic shock, enough to practically knock their heads off, but a minor shock, uh.. when
running something, a ridge or something like that’ll explode or give way. It’s very fascinating. It’s an electrical impact, just as thoroughly electrical impact as though you.. you had blown up an.. a big static machine or something in front of you.
Well anyway, a thetan can put out a pretty good electrical impact, and his commonest activity
when he’s going to punish something like that is to nip it. He slaps it on either side of its motor control panels and the thing goes into contortions and epileptic form seizures and a few other things, and it’s very uncomfortable. But of course when a thetan does that, he gets the back.. backlash of the energy. If he’s careless in this, he gets the backlash of the energy. All right.

In this lecture Hubbard gave Dianetics instructions for handling epileptiform seizures. Suggested that convulsions are caused by a certain type of prenatal engram.
However, my experience has been that I could always deintensify an
incident regardless of where it was, and anything that violent will
discharge.
You get someone going through an incident where he was actually in
a convulsive state, an epileptiform seizure, and that person will be in
the foulest shape that a man can possibly be in.
Run it. And just keep running it. The thing will settle one way or the other. It will deintensify.
Don't do what a poor gentleman's girlfriend is currently doing to
him. She is putting him back into a convulsive incident. There are no
words there. She is not trying to guess any words there. She is not
using any repeater technique. He is running on non-sonic, and all she
has done is start him in at the beginning of the incident and then let
him have a convulsion. Then after he has had a few convulsions, why,
she brings him up to present time. Of course he keeps on having these
convulsions. That is not going to deintensify. He isn't getting any
perceptic out of it at all, and he said, "I am beginning to feel very
irritable with people."
Well, what could be in the girl's mind? He also said to me, "What
good would it do to just do teamwork in the Foundation? I might as well
do it at home." Here he is being punished to within an inch of his life
practically every time he goes into therapy, yet at the Foundation his
case will be handled, his auditor will be trained, and supervised with
relationship to his case particularly, and the thing will be gotten
running. He will learn what to do about these things.
But there we have two babes in the woods where Dianetics is concerned.
Don't ever do that. If you run someone into an engram where they
are shaking all over, make them get the content out of the thing,
hammer in when you get these quivers and convulsions. I have never had
one of these cases fail to deintensify. Somewhere down in the early
area the
case should start to break on the unconsciousness. Then after a
few more convulsions in the early area, these should just cease to
exist on the rest of the case. In a migraine headache band you may have
200 incidents and you get off maybe 15 of them in the early part of the
basic area, after which the person just gets a slight headache, and the headaches get slighter and slighter as you go on.
Convulsions can be a standard engramic pattern. After all, there
are five kinds of orgasms a woman has and she might have a very
convulsive type of orgasm, quite in addition to the fact that the
shivers and shakes which she would then transmit might be very heavily
laid in with verbal content; together with the fact that the preclear
himself might have an engram at that point.

Hubbard claims knowledge of the cause and cure of epileptiform seizures.
Every once in a while we find an engram in the bank which has enough power in it to start pulling other engrams into it.
Hm-hm.
We have got to flatten the central one. Your case has this fortunate aspect, that the central one is not occluded. In lots of cases the central incident is completely out of sight. You can't contact it. The person isn't in any agonies over it because he will only get one somatic. For instance, he will curl up and argue. Or he will go into an epileptiform seizure every time he repeats any word in his reactive bank. It's all hanging up on one incident.
Yeah.
All right. So it's necessary to just keep plugging away at the case. And eventually that incident is going to show up. And when it shows up you have got to run it, regardless of whether it will lift completely or not. Then it will free the rest of it.
